Core Energy Launches Unconventional Gas Study
12.Apr.2010
Core Energy Group is pleased to announce that it will shortly release a major report on Unconventional Gas to clients via subscription. The report is the outcome of a major study which Core has been leading, which will conclude in August 2010. Following the report release, Core will maintain a continuous watching brief on developments in the unconventional gas arena to identify any changes of significance.
Within the context of this study, Unconventional Gas includes:
- Shale gas
- Tight gas
- Underground Coal Gasification
- Coal Mine Methane
- Coal Seam Gas
The study will address:
- International setting, lessons
- Gas demand - by state and customer segments to 2025 Reserves / resources - existing reserves and resources and scenarios of the growth of reserves with time - through to 2025
- Technical issues – rigorous technical analysis – drilling, fraccing, facilities etc.
- Supply/ production - analysis of the production scenarios to meet unfulfilled projected gas demand
- Competition - analysis of potential competitive response by customers and producers
- Cost - analysis of the cost of alternative supply sources and scope for changes with time based on changing resource quality, technical advancement, inflation and other dynamics
- Price - analysis of price outlook scenarios including impact of competitive behaviour of major players, LNG/ export and electricity pricing influences
- Regulation - analysis of major regulatory issues which may impact upon gas supply, cost and demand
- Supply/ demand scenarios
- Case studies - Unconventional gas activities of a range of companies, including Santos, Linc, Carbon Energy, Beach Energy, Drillsearch and other organisations
Commenting on the study CEO Mr Paul Taliangis said " This study leverages Core's extensive knowledge of Australian gas markets, including important interfaces with LNG and electricity sectors. For over seven years Core has continually advanced its databases, systems and knowledge of gas demand, supply, cost and competition dynamics to ensure we can provide quality information and advice to support complex investment and other business decisions. As Australia, and the international energy industry, pursues new gas supply horizons, Core is moving quickly to form an objective view of how major new supply sources in Eastern Australia could impact the energy value chain, from the perspective of all industry stakeholders. Importantly the study will rigorously develop and present feasible scenarios for supply (volume and cost) to meet projected demand at specific delivery points throughout the eastern Australia network to analyse implications for specific suppliers and customers."
